How Food Inventory Tracker processes account, household, inventory, device, and support information.

Last updated: October 12, 2026.

This policy explains how Food Inventory Tracker processes information through its iPhone and iPad app, Apple Watch companion, website and support channels.

Information processed by the app

  • Account information: Sign in with Apple identifier, Firebase user identifier, email address (including an Apple private relay address when you choose Hide My Email), display name, nickname and default household reference. Firebase Authentication uses the Apple-provided email to maintain your account.
  • Household information: household names, membership and invitation records, storage locations, item names, barcodes, quantities, stock targets, expiration dates, archive state and inventory activity.
  • Product interactions: inventory additions, restocks, usage, transfers and related activity used for history, metrics and inventory insights.
  • Scanning: the camera reads barcodes and package labels. Package-label text recognition occurs on device. Barcode lookup may send the barcode to Open Food Facts to retrieve public product names, brands, package details and images. Review suggested details before saving them to household inventory.
  • Apple Reminders: access is used when you choose to create or check low-stock reminders in your selected lists.
  • Apple Watch: the paired Watch stores a local household inventory summary for offline display and can refresh it from the iPhone.
  • Support: messages and recent logs, app/device information and account/household context may be shared when you initiate a support request and choose to send or share it. Diagnostics are not automatically submitted for support.

The current inventory assistant does not request device location or use WeatherKit. It answers inventory questions; it does not generate recipes or weather forecasts. Supported inventory answers are derived from household records. Apple on-device intelligence may assist supported functionality where available; household inventory is not sent to an external AI provider by chat.

How information is used

Information is used to authenticate accounts, protect household access, synchronize inventory between authorized members, provide inventory, reminder, history and metrics features, and respond to account-data, deletion and support requests. Service providers may process information needed for security, reliability and abuse prevention.

Services involved

Apple services provide Sign in with Apple, Reminders, camera access, on-device intelligence where available and Watch connectivity. Google Firebase provides authentication, Firestore synchronization and server functions. Open Food Facts provides public product lookup results. Web Hosting Canada hosts this website and related email services.

Recognized package-label text is processed on device; package-label images are not submitted to Food Inventory Tracker servers for OCR. Inventory fields you review and save are synchronized as household inventory.

Sharing and tracking

Food Inventory Tracker does not sell personal information, include advertising SDKs or use household inventory for cross-app tracking. Information is shared with service providers as needed to operate requested features or respond to support and legal obligations.

Retention and deletion

Account and household information is retained while needed to provide the service. You can initiate Delete Account in Data & Privacy. The app asks you to confirm and verify your Apple sign-in. Deleting your Food Inventory Tracker account does not delete your Apple Account.

The deletion flow removes your app account and associated personal data, resolves household membership and transfers ownership to a remaining member where needed. Shared inventory needed by other members remains available; empty households are removed. Personal activity attribution is anonymized while shared quantities and activity history are preserved. Older name-only activity labels are also anonymized because they cannot reliably identify an account.

Server cleanup can continue after the app closes. A short-lived deletion status record supports cleanup; successful completion markers normally expire within about 24–25 hours, although processing or scheduling failures can extend this. Contact privacy support if deletion does not complete.

Your choices

Camera and Reminders access are optional and controlled in Apple system settings. Manual inventory entry remains available without camera access. You can request account data or privacy assistance at privacy@foodinventorytracker.app. General support, bug reports and feature requests are available through the Support page.

Website data

The website does not currently provide public user accounts, comments or advertising analytics. The website uses GoatCounter for website visit statistics. The hosting provider may process standard server logs needed for security and reliable website delivery.

Security and policy changes

Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards protect account and household information. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Material policy changes will be reflected by updating the publication date on this page.
